Dinolift Oy Joins the Climate Program: Leading the Way with Carbon Footprint Calculation

Written by Raija Savolainen | Jul 15, 2024 7:45:00 AM

In a significant step towards environmental responsibility, Dinolift Oy joined the Climate Program (Ilmasto-ohjelma) organized by the Chambers of Commerce (Keskuskauppakamari) at the end of 2023. This initiative, which includes around 200 other SMEs, aims to provide tools and expert assistance to calculate and manage carbon footprints.

Starting the Journey: Scope 1 and Scope 2 Emissions

The Climate Program began in early 2024 with a focus on helping companies calculate their Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. Scope 1 emissions include direct emissions from owned or controlled sources, while Scope 2 emissions cover indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heating, and cooling consumed by the reporting company.

Achieving the "Carbon Footprint Calculated" Mark

Dinolift Oy successfully calculated its carbon footprint with the guidance provided by the program and was among the first 100 companies to receive the "Carbon Footprint Calculated" mark (Hiilijalanjälki laskettu -Merkki). This mark demonstrates to stakeholders that the company is committed to understanding and managing its environmental impact. It is a testament to Dinolift Oy’s dedication to sustainability and transparency.

Looking Ahead: Scope 3 Emissions and Beyond

The Climate Program will continue in Autumn 2024, and Dinolift Oy is eager to take the next steps by investigating Scope 3 emissions. Scope 3 includes all other indirect emissions that occur in a company's value chain. Understanding these emissions is crucial for a comprehensive carbon footprint calculation.

Training and Roadmaps for Carbon Neutrality

The next phase of the Climate Program offers valuable training on emission reduction and the creation of roadmaps toward carbon neutrality. These sessions will equip Dinolift Oy with the necessary skills to independently develop and implement strategies to reduce its carbon footprint and work towards the goal of carbon neutrality.

The Climate Commitment: A Path to Carbon Neutrality

Upon completion of the Climate Program, participating companies, including Dinolift Oy, will have the opportunity to apply for the Chambers of Commerce’s Climate Commitment. This commitment will guide and support the company in its ongoing climate work and efforts to achieve carbon neutrality.

Dinolift Oy’s participation in the Climate Program highlights its proactive approach to sustainability and environmental stewardship. By calculating its carbon footprint and committing to further reductions, Dinolift Oy is not only aligning with global climate goals but also setting a benchmark for others in the industry. Moreover, Dinolift is preparing to comply with the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) that highlights reporting of climate-related information such as all GHG emissions. In the first phase, SMEs are obliged to report their scope 1 and scope 2 emissions.

This article is part of our ongoing series, "Sustainability in Action," where we explore the initiatives and innovations that drive Dinolift Oy’s commitment to a sustainable future.
